All About Marilyn
Marilyn is an African Grey who came to Parrots First with her long time mate, Rocky. They came from a large animal welfare organization that was working with a retiring breeder. Marilyn and Rocky were older and no longer producing chicks. When they came to Parrots First, they would throw themselves to the ground if they saw a human, so they were placed in an aviary outside a volunteer’s bedroom window. He spent hours sitting inside and talking softly to them, and after about a year, Rocky and Marilyn were no longer frightened to see their caregivers. Over the course of another 2 years, Rocky and Marilyn began taking treats of nuts from human hands.
Sadly, Marilyn’s life mate, Rocky, passed away in 2013. Marilyn stopped talking and whistling for awhile but is again doing well. She may never be happy in a home and will stay with Parrots First as long as is necessary.
Why Sponsor Marilyn?
Marilyn needs sponsoring because she is a gentle, sweet girl who needs time to heal from the rough beginnings of her life and now the recent passing of her mate. She requires an aviary and the company of other parrots around her and will most likely be with Parrots First for life.
Marilyn’s Favorite Things
Marilyn’s favorite things are sugar snap peas and balsa wood. She goes through 3 or 4 blocks of wood a day. She loves to learn to whistle new songs and even makes up her own.
